In September, 2003 Holly Feetterer, a lifelong Crystal Lake resident, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths among women living in the United States. When Holly first learned of her diagnosis, she was scared and she was angry. But then she became determined like only Holly could and she fought this disease tooth and nail for nearly four years.
During this time, Holly amazed people with an incredible inner strength, infectious sense of humor and an overwhelming desire to help and comfort others. Holly loved her life and absolutely refused to let cancer define who she was. She hoped that if she could just hold on long enough, the medical community would eventually develop a cure which would allow her to overcome this insidious disease.
Unfortunately, the cure did not arrive in time. Holly died from complications caused by ovarian cancer on March 12, 2007. She was only 40 years of age at the time of her death, and she left behind countless friends and family who truly loved her including her two beautiful sons, age 12 and age 10.
Although we mourn the loss of this very special lady, Holly's hope for a cure lives on in all of us. It is this hope which has sparked the formation of Holly's Hope for a Cure , an Illinois Not-for-Profit Corporation created by some of Holly's closest friends and family. The mission of Holly's Hope for a Cure is both to raise the public's awareness about ovarian cancer and to generate the funds necessary to ultimately find a cure for this disease.
